Giving away comics to attract new readers. Does it work?

Mike-EL likes spending his allowance buying up cheap comics and giving them away to non-comics reading pals. But, does it work? We gave All-Star Superman #1, Batman & Robin #1 and MouseGuard (from Free Comic Book Day) to Cristina “SuperChi” Marin. What is her first impression?
