Just in case you are not familiar with Geoff Johns, he is the Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics and current writer on Green Lantern.

Geoff, who is a native of Michigan who grew up in the Dearborn area. Dearborn is known for its rich Arab heritage and being an Arab-American himself (Geoff is half Lebanese), he recently visited his hometown and stopped by the Arab American National Musuem to do a youth workshop and afternoon presentation.

Drawing on his own heritage, Johns has created Simon Baz, the newest member of the Green Lantern Corps. The current issue of the rebooted Green Lantern series (#0) is only the beginning. We are givien a tantalizing glimpse of Baz’ origin, but we must come back for more.

Why does this Green Lantern carry a gun? What does the tattoo on his right forearm mean? How does a car thief become a member of an intergalactic police force? As Geoff Johns says, we’ll have to read the series to find out!
