More Words = Better Stories?
Modern comics have far less words per page than comics from 20 years ago or earlier. It was arguably Warren Ellis that started the decompression trend in the late 90s, on comics like The Authority, and now everyone is doing it.
While it did make comic books more cinematic, relying less on wooden dialogue and poor exposition, the quality of the stories is not necessarily better. Danny-Boy, J’orge, Mike-EL and Jamie Greer debate the issue.
PLUS: Jamie tells us the secret plan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thanks to Bob Rozakis & Elliot S! Maggin for providing the inspiration for this debate in BACK ISSUE #62.
