In 2001 the X-men (and Marvel Comics) were in shambles. Coming off a decade of critical acclaim on titles like Animal Man, Doom Patrol, the Invisibles, and JLA, Grant Morrison was offered to the keys to Mutant Kingdom. Along with artistic collaborator Frank Quitely, Morrison reinvented the X-men for the new millennium, dumping the years of barnacles that had accumulated on Marvel’s flagship franchise.
New members, new costumes, new villains and — most important — a new kind of storytelling: NEW X-MEN.
