“Open your heart to me”

The following contains SPOILERS!!!

This week’s episode of WandaVision is giving our little after-show the extra 10 minutes of life we ALL require! As always there is much to talk about, so Harvey Brent and G.I. Jolie bring on Joshua Murr-VELL of @HCTSpidercast to help break it all down.

Please, sit back, relax, and set your listening speed to 1.5x as we unload our thoughts about Marvel Studios latest offering: WandaVision, Season 1 Episode 7 – “Breaking the Fourth Wall”.

The plot thickens, and is brought to a low boil

Wanda is totally complacent after what happened in last week’s episode. Her hair is a mess and she wears pajamas in every scene, leading the viewer to believe that she is depressed and has given up on everything outside of her home; Wanda is unable to make Vision part of her plot and with the expansion of the Hex, her powers and everything in the house are no longer easy to control. Wanda does not attempt to fix any of it, and in this episode’s comedy mockumentary style, effectively removes herself from the main plot for the time being.

Meanwhile in new, NEW Westview…

The Hex is bigger and Vision is spared from certain death. Vision sees that he is now but now part of a traveling carnival. He runs into Doctor Darcy Lewis who, having been handcuffed a S.W.O.R.D vehicle during the expansion, is also under the spell of the Hex and believes that she is the Carnival’s Escape Artist. After a hilarious exchange Vision removes the Hex spell from Darcy and the two steal a truck in order to drive back to Vision’s home. However, this task is made impossible as strange obstacles, which we assume are created by Wanda, continue to get in their way.

Strange things are brewing back home

Wanda lazes around her home casually with her sons Tommy and Billy, basking in the Visionlessness of her current situation but finds herself the subject of unwelcome interrogation by the twins. The boys ask their mother about the conversation they overheard on Halloween night, but Wanda insists that they ignore it because Pietro is “not their uncle”. Just as the conversation starts to get juicy Agnes bursts in to pay one of her well-timed visits before any questions can be answered. Agnes sees that Wanda is struggling, so she offers to take Billy and Tommy to her house for the afternoon where later on, a strange remark from Billy about Agne’s insides being “quiet”, results in a knowing look from Agnes and the end of the scene.

Keeping up with Monica and Jimmy

At this point in time, Monica Rambeau and Agent Jimmy Woo are still on the outside of the Hex with no way through but it turns out that Monica has called for backup! Some yet-to-be identified allies arrive and to provide Rambeau and Woo with equipment to attempt their break-in but when none of it works, Monica runs head first into the Hex. After a lengthy struggle, Monica is able to pass through to the other side, but not before being very visibly altered on a molecular level.

Monica makes her way to the WandaVision homestead where she finds and confronts Wanda. She tries to tell Wanda that she’s there to help but Wanda is not convinced. Wanda thinks that she has Monica beat, but is shocked to see that, despite being blasted sky high, Monica is unfazed by her Magic.

Monica appeals to Wanda’s humanity in an attempt to end the fighting by telling Wanda that she to has experienced the pain of loss, and that pain is far greater than anything Wanda can do to her. Wanda calms down at the thought, but Agnes appears and quickly ushers her away.

Stay out of the basement

Wanda asks Agnes where her boys are and is told that they’re likely playing in the basement. Wanda follows that lead and makes her way their, but not before encountering some spooky visuals. Sensing that something is wrong, Wanda continues to slowly make her way down, passing through a dark, cavern-like, stone hallway covered in a purple, glowing haze. Once Wanda reaches the bottom, the door to the basement slams itself closed and Agnes appears, slightly disheveled, holding her rabbit Senior Scratchy. It is at this time that Agnes reveals to Wanda that she too has magic powers and that it is her, Agatha Harkness, manipulating things.
